Make This Easy and Cute Germ Blow Painting Art With Straws

This art activity is great on its own, but if you want to make it educational, you can teach your child a little about germs before the project.

For very young kids who don’t know what germs are, we recommend the book, Germs Aren’t For Sharing. It doesn’t go into great detail about germs, but it helps teach kids the basics and how to have good personal hygiene.

Older kids who want to learn more about microbes will love The Bacteria Book. It’s loaded with tons of facts and goes into detail on topics such as bacteria, fungi, algae, viruses, and more.

What you will need:
Germ Art Directions:

Pour your liquid watercolors into an art palette or paint cups. Use a paintbrush to add a small puddle of paint onto the paper.

Place the straw about an inch away form the puddle. Use the straw to blow the paint blobs around in all directions. Try blowing down directly onto the puddle, blowing from the left and blowing from the right. See how many different shapes you can make with the watercolors.

Repeat this step with each of the colors.

Let the paint dry completely (ours took about 15 minutes; if you need these done quick, you can use a blowdryer as well).

Cut circles from the white paper and glue them onto the blow paint germs.

Use a black marker to draw the eyes onto the germs.

With the black marker, draw lines coming out from the center of each germ. Paint small circles at the ends of these lines with a coordinating paint color.

That’s all there is to it!

Now you can have fun at home making all sorts of germy artwork and best of all, there’s no need to worry about getting sick from these little germs!

How cute are these Highlighter Easter Eggs? If you don’t have a colorful dye kit but still want to decorate some last-minute eggs for Easter, then simply raid your stationery supplies drawer for some highlighters and markers for a quick and easy way to add some color to your eggs!

What you will need:

Step 1: Poke a hole in the egg with a needle and take out all the yolk

Step 2: Paint you eggs white is they arnt already white

DIY | Watercolour Easter Eggs

Watercolor egg painting is so easy and fun.  To create these watercolor eggs, you will need:

If you want to paint detailed designs onto your eggs you will want a very fine brush.  If you are going for the tie-dye Easter egg look like I have done, a bigger brush will work well.

 

First: Make sure your eggs are hard boiled. You definitely don’t want any messes if one accidentally cracks! And with kids and eggs..at least one WILL crack. Once they are hard boiled (AND COOLED) Place your eggs in an upside down egg carton. This will give your eggs a nice little place to sit while you paint them.

Next: To use the Pentel Aquash Water brush, unscrew the cap and separate the bristles from the rest of the brush. Next, fill up the chamber with water and reattach the cap. Then, squeeze the brush to release the water into the watercolor palette. Pick up the color with the brush and start painting on the top of the egg.  Pull the color down the side of the egg with the brush or let it drip down. The more water you use, the lighter and more transparent the color will be.

Finally: Once you are done painting the first color, add as many more colors as you want.  Make sure to add more colors wile the paint is still wet in order to give it a tie dye look. Once the egg has dried, turn it over and paint the bottom of the egg in the same way you painted the top.

Pom Pom Valentine Craft Monsters

If you’re looking for an easy Valentine’s Day craft to make with the kids then you’re in luck! Today we sharing a tutorial from craft unleashed, on how to make pom pom valentine craft monsters with heart antennas. These are great for kids to play with at home and easy enough to make in large quantities for classroom valentines.

Supplies needed to make your own pom pom valentine craft monsters:

  • Wool
  • Pom Pom Maker
  • Scissors
  • Moveable Eyes
  • Foam Heart Stickers or Foam Sheets
  • Chenille Stems
  •  Project Glue

For this project, we used the large pom pom maker in the pack of three. Using the pom pom maker, wrap the wool around several times to make a thick pom pom. The more wool you use the easier it is for the “monster” to stand.

To make the valentine craft monsters, use a 3-4 inch chenille stem folded in half for the antenna. Take foam hearts and glued them onto the stem then glue that onto the top of the pom pom. Also glue on the moveable eyes to finish off the valentine craft monster’s face. Allow the glue to dry completely before picking the pom pom up.

We plan to tie a valentine card to each one with baker’s twine or use a clear treat bag and attach a card to the top.

Statesman’s youngest Employee!

On the 3rd of December, a  determined young lady arrived for her first day of work at Statesman Stationery. Just a few days before she had asked for a holiday job to help her pay for her stationery and her school uniforms as well as that of her little sister. Even though Statesman was fully staffed we could not turn Rabia away, especially when she was so meticulous at justifying her desire to work for us. Rabia has been using our stationery since 2015 and can tell you all about our brand and the quality of our products. 

At the young age of 14 years old, Rabia is a high school student living close to Statesman Stationery and is enthusiastic about learning the ropes.  Rabia is determined to be a proactive benefactor in her future, she believes that education is part of everyday life and because she knows that her love for stationery is a life long commitment, she wants to get ahead of the working game and ensure she never runs out of ink or paint.  

When thinking about what Rabia could do at Statesmen, we quickly realized she had the perfect personality for customer services and because of her meticulous nature and intimate knowledge of our shop floor, order picking was a natural second choice for her duties. 

At school, Rabia enjoys all her subjects, but most of all she loves Natural Science and Afrikaans. Rabia has a younger sister who also loves our stationery, and Rabia is using her earnings to ensure both her and her sister are kitted out with all the Statesman’s gear they can use. 

We at Statesman Stationery are exceptionally proud of Rabia, and her determination and focus have endeared her to the whole Statesman Stationery team. This sure-fire leader of tomorrow has not only taken huge steps in developing and securing her own future but has also wholeheartedly captured the attention and affections of staff and customers alike.

Statesman Stationery is extraordinarily proud to be a part of this young lady’s life journey, may it take her from strength to strength.

Homemade greeting cards are beautiful!

Of all the gifts we receive at this time of year, the ones most treasured are the ones made by hand. Homemade greeting cards are carefully thought out, the messages are written are personalised by the card maker, and the words are especially for the receiver. A lot of great thought is put into these cards, and the time spent making the cards is a reflection on the memories made with that special person. 

In preparation of the card making affair, we gather up all the supplies from the craft cupboard. We layout the cardboard, the paint and brushes are set up for use. Glue, glitter and other small decorations are collected and set out on the craft table, all is ready for the making of the special cards for the ones we hold dear. 

Not only is this a time for making gifts, but it is also a time to share. Gathered around together and crafting, we get to make a new set of memories with our family and friends. During these card making experiences, we laugh and share our hopes and dreams. It is a time of bonding and sometimes when someone new has been introduced to the family, this is a time to get to know them.  

Homemade greeting cards are not just about saving money, the making and presenting of the cards is the act of giving a piece of who you in a message filled with love and hope.
